Who We Are and What We're Doing
We were the ’90s kids. We grew up in a slower world.
Sometimes we wish our kids could, too.
A kinder internet.
Saturday morning cartoons, mixtapes burned onto CDs, and bike rides that lasted until the light post came on.
Somewhere along the way, childhood veered off course.
We're shining a light to help steer it back, for today’s kids learning to navigate a world that increasingly feels sideways.
Meet Captain Lantern
Our trusty guide through the fog of modern childhood.

When Childhood Became a Job
Half the childhood wonder, twice the worry.
Somewhere along the way, childhood became a project to manage rather than a life to be lived.
Did You Know?
-
Only 27% of children play outside regularly today, compared to 80% of their grandparents' generation
-
Kids today have 50% less free play time than their parents did when they were children
-
The average child spends 7+ hours a day on screens...more time than most adults spend at work
-
65% of parents say they're too overwhelmed to create meaningful quality time with their children
-
75% of face-to-face time with your child happens before they turn 12
These days, kids hustle from school to sports to screens with barely a breath in between.
What used to be cardboard forts and muddy knees has become calendars, traffic, and burnout by age ten.
And here’s the deeper truth:
There’s a devastatingly short window when you are your child’s entire world.
A fleeting, golden stretch when they are still curious, playful, and completely enchanted by the world.
After that, a tidal wave rolls in - the inevitability of modern existence.
Friends, devices, deadlines, distractions… and that wide-eyed sweetness begins to slip away.
Let’s make the most of these years. Lets create space for more moments.Let’s make them magical.
Wonder, creativity, and connection are quietly disappearing and we’re here to help bring them back. Modern life makes it harder to be intentional. We are building a shortcut.
